Helping you to grow great roses!

EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF GROWING ROSES!
Picture
Interesting & informative programs and events!
The Manhattan Rose Society holds meetings and events featuring informative programs with world renowned Rose Experts, Garden Tours, Dinners and more!  Our meetings with speakers will continue to be virtual via GoToMeeting for the foreseeable future.  Before the pandemic our Annual Dinner meeting was held at a fine restaurant in Manhattan. We also held private garden tours, a Wine & Roses event in the summer and our Annual Holiday Open House in December.  While we anticipate our meetings with speakers to continue virtually, we hope to return to in person events in the near future.

We publish 7 issues of our e-newsletter, Skyscrapers & Roses, per year.

New members receive a FREE 4-Month Trial Membership to the American Rose Society! Joining or renewing is easy! Visit our "Storefront" page.

Presenting Dr Mark Windham
Saturday, June 18, 2022 @ 2PM ET – via GoToMeeting!

Members will be sent an email invite the week of the event.
“Update on Rose Rosette Disease (RRD) Research"   Good News! Research, underway at Texas A&M University and the University of Tennessee, has found RRD Resistant Genes. The focus now turns to getting resistance to RRD into the roses we love and want in our gardens. We are one step closer to putting this problem behind us. Join us as Dr. Windham brings us up to date on where we stand in the fight against RRD!
Dr. Mark Windham is a Professor and Distinguished Chair in Ornamental Pathology at the University of Tennessee. He is a member of the American Rose Society and past president of the Holston Rose Society. Mark has been conducting research on roses for more than 25 years and is part of a team of scientists that has received funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crops Initiative (SCRI) to combat Rose Rosette Disease (RRD). Mark’s rose rosette field site encompasses nearly 4 acres and includes more than 1500 rose bushes. In addition, Mark has rose research sites throughout Tennessee and several neighboring states.  In conjunction with the rose industry, he has also screened hybrid tea and floribunda roses for resistance to black spot and powdery mildew with the goal of generating a list of roses that homeowners can grow successfully without reliance on chemical control tactics.
