Experience the Joy of Growing Roses

Helping you to grow great roses!

EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF GROWING ROSES!
Picture
Interesting & informative programs and events!
The Manhattan Rose Society holds meetings and events featuring informative programs with world renowned Rose Experts, Garden Tours, Dinners and more!  Our meetings with speakers will continue to be virtual via GoToMeeting for the foreseeable future.  Before the pandemic our Annual Dinner meeting was held at a fine restaurant in Manhattan. We also held private garden tours, a Wine & Roses event in the summer and our Annual Holiday Open House in December.  While we anticipate our meetings with speakers to continue virtually, we hope to return to in person events in the near future.

We publish 7 issues of our e-newsletter, Skyscrapers & Roses, per year.

New members receive a FREE 4-Month Trial Membership to the American Rose Society! Joining or renewing is easy! Visit our "Storefront" page.

Presenting Dr David Slezak
Saturday, July 16, 2022 @ 2PM ET – via GoToMeeting!

Members will be sent an email invite the week of the event.
"Managing Rose Black Spot – Genetic & Cultural Approaches"
The program will focus on the disease life cycle to help us understand cultural interventions that can help slow down black spot, some of the lower impact commercial products/sprays for management, and advances being made with genetics of black spot resistance and introduction of resistant varieties.
About David:
Dr. David Zlesak is a Professor of Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he teaches undergraduate courses in plant identification, propagation, and production. He has been breeding roses 1984 and has cultivars of roses, ninebark, heliopsis, and ageratum on the market.  He works with the American Rose Trials for Sustainability® and National Clean Plant Network-Roses programs and loves doing as much research on roses with colleagues as time allows (e.g. characterizing new rose viruses, identifying resistance genes to rose black spot, and rose reproductive biology).
